Tim Tebow is arguably the most popular backup player in the history of football. His New York Jets No. 15 Tebow jersey is one of the top sellers in the NFL this year. He has a huge fan base behind him. And that fan base has many fantasy football players, who may want to honor this player they admire so much by putting him on their fantasy team.
Unfortunately for the Tim Tebow fans out there, he hasn’t gotten to start for the Jets this season, which means that his value in fantasy football is nil. Right now, that is. But he might be starting for the Jets sooner than you might think.
After all, after a good opening outing, Mark Sanchez has been struggling as Jets quarterback. He was awful in the team’s 34-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants. And people are now starting to wonder how long it will be before Tebow Time begins for the Jets.
This isn’t surprising. When Tebow was traded to the Jets this season, the media speculated about how long it would take until fans started clamoring for Tebow to be the starting quarterback. The answer was that it took the fourth game of the season – only the second home game of the year – to start the Tebow chants. While the Jets say that they’re going to stick with Sanchez as quarterback, even though he is ranked as the third-worst QB in the league now, there’s all sorts of speculation about when Tebow will be brought in as the No. 1 quarterback.

This isn’t new for the former Heisman Trophy winner. Last season, Tebow didn’t get to start with the Denver Broncos until the sixth game, and in that case, fans were clamoring for him to replace Kyle Orton for a few weeks before. Yet despite only starting in eleven regular-season games, Tebow finished 18th among fantasy football quarterbacks in 2011, according to ESPN. He also led the Broncos to the second round of the NFL playoffs.
The Jets are 2-2, but things are looking pretty bleak for them. Santonio Holmes is out with a foot injury, Darrelle Revis is out for the season, and Rex Ryan seems to be out of his mind. So what’s next? Don’t be surprised if the Jets throw a Hail Mary pass and have Tebow start soon. Right now, he is only owned by around 14% of ESPN NFL fantasy league owners, which means that he could be available in your league. If you are a Tebow fan, and many people are, regardless of what NFL team they root for, there is a very good chance he could be starting for the Jets if Sanchez doesn’t turn things around.
